Coding steps Follow the 7 steps listed below, to assign the correct ICD code for each question. 1 Identify all terms in the diagnosis 2 Locate each main term in the Alphabetic Index. 3 Refer to any subterms indented under the main term. 4 Follow cross-reference instructions if the needed code is not located under the first main entry consulted. 5 Verify the code in the Tabular List. 6 Read and be guided by any instructional terms in the Tabular List. 7 Assign codes to the highest level of specificity. Part 1: Write a one-page essay about the following 50 points Directions to complete part 1: Using UMA’s virtual library, as well as internet search engines, research the World Health Organization . Besides holding responsibility of the ICD-10-CM , what are other characteristics of this organization? Please be specific in your response, citing the characteristic and the outcome of said characteristic. The World Health Organization has six core functions it is focusing on: 1. Providing leadership on matters critical to health and engaging in partnerships where joint action is needed. 2. Shaping the research agenda and stimulating the generation, translation, and dissemination of valuable knowledge. 3. Setting norms and standards and promoting and monitoring their implementation. 4. Articulating ethical and evidence-based policy options. 5. Providing technical support, catalyzing change, and building sustainable institutional capacity. 6. Monitoring the health situation and addressing health trends. The direction of WHO’s work is geared towards meeting the health related Millennium Development Goals. The MDGs are endorsed by 189 countries and resolves to work towards combating poverty, ill health, discrimination and inequality, lack of education and environmental degradation. The MDGs are 8 specific goals that the 191 United Nations states have committed themselves to achieving, and are as follows: 1. To eradicate extreme poverty and hunger. 2. To achieve universal primary education. 3. To promote gender equality and empower women. 4. To reduce child mortality.
