COURSE: THSP109 Sections 002,003,007,009 TITLE: Public Speaking CREDIT: 3 hours FACULTY: Margaret Clark: email, margaret-clark@utc.edu Office: 239, Grote Hall, Phone: 425-5537 TEXBOOK AND CLASS MATERIALS: DeVito, Joseph A., The Essential Elements of Public Speaking, 2 nd Edition, Allyn & Bacon, 2006. Students will need a notebook and note cards. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Students will learn the practical application of the principles of public speaking. COURSE OBJECTIVES: 1) Students will understand the principles of effective public speaking and be able to apply these principles in actual situations. 2) Students will have the ability to organize ideas and information in a systematic outline form. 3) Students will gain practice in critical listening and evaluating speeches. ATTENDANCE POLICY: In order to get the most out of this class, it is extremely important to participate. Each student is allowed 2 absences; however, after 2 absences your final grade will be penalized. Roll will be called when the class begins at the assigned time.
