Abstract Listening skill plays an integral role that considerably influences on many areas of our lives. For students, it is particularly important to acquire knowledge from second language: English. However, students tend to get into difficulties in listening skill when they learn English. Therefore, possessing skills to struggle these obstacles is a key to acquire academic successes. Based on the data obtained from a small- scale research conducted within FSD OF Hanoi University. As the title suggests, this purpose of this paper is to determine the troubles that students have to deal with in listening. Besides, some solutions to handle the difficulties in listening are provided for students to consider. It is hoped that this research could be helpful for students in the way to achieve certain academic results. 2

INTRODUCTION Listening is one of the most crucial skill that has significantly affected in many aspects our lives such as successing in communication, maintaining some relationships or learning foreign language. Especially in learning the second language: English, listening skill is very important for student to obtain information or academic purpose. Regarding Mendelsohn (1994), listening comprehension is a dynamic and cognizant process in which the listeners develops importance by utilizing prompts from relevant data and from existing information, while depending upon various crucial assets to satisfy the assignment necessity. He focuses out that, in listening to talked dialect, the capacity to decode the speaker's plan is needed of a capable audience, notwithstanding different capacities, for example, handling the phonetic structures like discourse velocity and fillers, adapting to listening in a connection, understanding the entire message contained in the talk, appreciating the message without seeing each word, and perceiving distinctive sorts. (Mendelsohn, 1994) Listening is really important in learning English. For example, in the case that people cannot hear well, they will be hard to communicate or fail in the test. Actually, students regularly take the wrong way when listening and this leads them to the poor result. It ought to be noticed that the learner's view of their listening issue and techniques can influence their cognizance (Wenden, 1986). Accordingly, keeping in mind the end goal to help students get enhanced with their listening skill, it is required figuring out their listening problems which cause troubles to them. As indicated by Yagang (1994), the difficulties in listening were went with four elements: the message, the speaker, the audience and the physical setting. Besides, a quantities of research have been done to point out the difficulties in listening.
