“In a higher phase of communist society…only then can the narrow horizon of bourgeois right be fully left behind and society can inscribe on its banners: from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs” ~Karl Marx Although his writings and ideas were widely ignored during his lifetime, Karl Marx ultimately became one of the most influential philosophers and thinkers of his time. During an age where the world lacked a guiding light, Marx’s anti-capitalist and communist ideas captured the imaginations of the leaders and thinkers of the world. The fall of free enterprise and rise of Marxism was on the rise in the late 19 th and early 20 th centuries; thus, resulting in a war that raged for over a century to keep free-world values afloat. Marx’s works, such as The Communist Manifesto and Das Kapital were the sparks that ignited the socialist wave that began in Europe and found its way into the Asian world and grew even further. In due course, the works of Karl Marx would change the world. Karl Heinrich Marx was born to Heinrich and Henriette on May 5, 1818 in Trier, a Rhineland section of Germany to a middle class family. Marx grew up in turbulent times. His father was forced to stop practicing as a Rabbi and take up Lutheranism when the Prussian authorities outlawed Judaism. Marx was educated at home until the age of thirteen, and then attended the Trier Gymnasium. He then enrolled at the University of
