Informative Speech Outline Justin Shull 3/24/06 Opening Statement: “Keg, case, can, cup, pong, quarters, power hour…I think everyone knows what I’m talking about” I. As college students, we all experience alcohol use, either directly or indirectly -Although frequent use of alcohol can be detrimental to one’s health… -the use of alcohol has become an integral part of teenage life - However; many people do not take the time to look at alcohol in a historical sense. Alcohol has many roots in what the world is today. -Did you know that the first traces of fermented alcoholic beverages can be traced back to 10,000 B.C.? -Primordial world cultures such as the Sumerians and the Egyptians worshipped wine and beer Gods. -even the ancient Egyptians had 17 kinds of beer and 24 kinds of wine. -In all of the world’s great civilizations alcohol has killed many a citizen’s brain cells and has thus changed the outcome of history. -Through my research with Potsdam University’s website, Answers.com, and Caroline Acker’s History of Alcohol and Drug Use in the United States , I found that alcohol played many domestic and global roles throughout history.
