Assignment 6 – The current political boundaries of Southeast Asia are the legacy of colonial territories. The economic growth first came to Southeast Asia when Europe and America began trading raw materials. After 1970 most of Australia and New Zealand’s trading was to America and Europe. This globalization resulted in a less self sufficient area. Although many of the Pacific islands now have closer ties with the rest of the world, not too many of them are involved in the global economy except in the tourism department. A lot of these neighboring places see each other as threats rather than partners.
