Conquering Negative Self-TalkIntroductions/Ice BreakerIntroToday’s topic will be conquering negative self-talk.Can anybody tell me what self-talk is?Self-talk is the internal narrative you hold about yourself. It’s your inner voice. You may or may not have spent much time thinking about it or giving it any attention. But the truth is, our self-talk can actually have a much bigger influence on the way we see ourselves, and the world around us than werealize.Negative Self-TalkOur patterns of self-talk are often negative – we focus on preconceived ideas that we’re ‘not good enough’ orwe ‘can’t do anything right’. Our brains are hardwired to remember negative experiences over positive ones, sowe recall the times we didn’t quite get it right more than the times we do. We then replay these messages inour minds, fueling negative feelings. Sometimes we tend to “jump the gun” so to speak, and dwell on thenegative feelings without pausing to think how this situation may differ from past ones. There are generally 4 categories of Negative Self-talk1.Personalizing: Meaning you blame yourself when things go wrong.
