Joe Soukup Prof. Kugler Western Civ. St. Francis Essay In the Catholic religion there are patron saints for everything that people are likely to pray for. Each saint is a patron over one thing or another. Though few saints had quite the impact on the Catholic Church as St. Francis did. He created three different divisions among the orders of the Roman Catholic Church. St. Francis left a lasting impact that shows us what a man who cares for his community was really like. Initially after death most saints are not immediately canonized by the Catholic religion, but St. Francis was a different story. It took a little bit of arm-twisting by his former mentor now pope Gregory IX. It was less than two years after his death that he became officially known as St. Francis. Not long after St. Francis had passed on was there a basilica built in his honor, his remains are still buried deep and securely under granite, gravel, iron, a grill, and a rock. The people who buried St. Francis buried him so
