1 Unit II: We Are Protestants A. The Church’s Authority The Concepts of ‘Scripture’ and ‘Revelation’ Lecture 17 The Approach of this Class We are asking the question, “Who are we?” UNIT ONE: We are Christians UNIT TWO: We are Protestants UNIT THREE: We are Dispensationalists Protestant distinctives deal with the areas of Scripture and salvation . The word “bible” refers to a book or scroll, especially a holy book. It can be replicated, copied, translated, preserved, and transmitted over time and across cultures. PAPYRUS The Meaning of “Scripture” Generally: “writings” In the NT: “sacred writings” – Authoritative – Demand a higher level of respect “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness.” 2 Tim. 3:16 “But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” 2 Peter 1:20-21 Here, the Old Testament is meant. The Meaning of “Scripture” “…our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, as also in all his letters , speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. ” 2 Peter 3:16 “For the Scripture says, ‘You shall not muzzle the ox while he is threshing,’ (Deut. 25:4) and ‘The laborer is worthy of his wages,’ (Luke 10:7).” 1 Timothy 5:18 Clearly, the New Testament is called “scripture” in these references. So, Scripture is a written message which: Includes the Old and New Testaments Is Propositional (in human language) Is from God °±² ³´µ¶ ·¸¹µ²º »¼½¸¾¿À½²º ¸Á  ÃÂÁ¿²½¾¸²¼² ´Ä ŲÁ¸ÆÇ Ä´½ ¿±² ¾À½¾´Á²È°±² Dz²ÅÉ ŸʸDz òÁÁÂƲ Ä´½ ÃÂÇ˸ÇÅÈ°±² ¾½´¹µ²Ãɱ´Ì ¼ÂÇ ¿±¸Á òÁÁÂƲ ¹² Ųµ¸Ê²½²Å ¼¼À½Â¿²µ¶º ±´Ì ̸µµ ¸¿ ¹² ¾´ÁÁ¸¹µ² ¿´ Á¾²ÂË ¿±¸Á ʲ½¶ òÁÁÂƲ ̸¿± ¼µÂ½¸¿¶ ÂÇÅ ¾½²¼¸Á¸´Ç ¿´  ±´Á¿ ´Ä ¼Àµ¿À½²Á ͽ´ÀÇÅ ¿±² Ì´½µÅ ÂÇÅ ¸Ç ʽ¸´ÀÁ ¿²Ã¾´½Âµ Á²¿¿¸ÇÆÁ Í ¿±½´ÀƱ ±¸Á¿´½¶ ̸¿±´À¿ ¿±² Dz²Å Ä´½ !´Å ¿´ ½²¾²Â¿ ³¸ÃÁ²µÄ ̸¿± ²Ê²½ ½²¼À½½¸ÇÆÇ²Ì ½²Ê²µÂ¿¸´ÇÁº ÂÇÅ ±´Ì ¼ÂÇ ¿±² òÁÁÂƲ ¹² ¾½²Á²½Ê²Å ¼¼À½Â¿²µ¶ ¸Ç ¸¿Á ¿½ÂÇÁøÁÁ¸´Ç Ľ´Ã

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
