Course Description: Designed to give the non-music emphasis student basic music skills (Music Theory), a background for understanding the proper functions of church music (Music and Worship), and an appreciation of music from a variety of styles, forms, and historical periods (Music History). II. Course Objectives: A. Understand the fundamentals of music (music theory) through sight, sound, and singing. B. An overview of Western musical traditions (music history), c.1100 – present. C. Discuss issues of music and worship in the church, past and present. III. Texts: 1. Copland, Aaron. What to Listen for in Music. New York: Signet Classic, 2002. 2. Wilson-Dickson, Andrew.
