Summary Though Solomon had acquired wisdom, wealth, and fame, he had also sown the seeds of destruction. His multiple marriages to wives of pagan nations had led him into immorality and idolatry. Plus, he had forced harsh labor and levied excessive taxes on the people. Through his prophet, probably Ahijah, the Lord informed Solomon that because of his sins, Israel would be divided into two kingdoms. For the sake of David, however, God would not break his covenant
