Using the Gel Analysis Excel Spreadsheet
1. Obtain Gel Image from Blackboard and print off.
2. Label the bands in the ladder in base pairs using the values in Questions 3’s table.
3. Using a ruler, measure the distance
each
band the ladder ran in millimeters. To do this, measure from the
middle of the well to the middle of the band. Do this for EVERY band in the ladder. Record these values in the
table below.

4. Transfer values in the table above into the “DNA Bio Std Curve” excel document.
5. Using the bands in the ladder as a reference, in the table below estimate the approximate size in base pair of each
band for Randy, Man 1, Man 2, and Man 3.
Next, measure the distance each the bands traveled from the middle of the well to the middle of the band. Do this
for EVERY band in every lane for Randy, Man1, Man 2, and Man 3. Record measurements in the table below and
transfer to document.
