Option 2, Open/Closed Source 2 Option 2, Open/Closed Source Over the years there has been and still is a debate going that does not seem to end on whether software operating systems should be developed as open source or whether private companies should keep their source code closed from users of the software. There has even been hackers that have been hacking the closed systems and posting it for the public. The debate seems to bring up a lot of pros and cons on both sides of the spectrum. There are plenty of differences and similarities between open and closed source systems and software. There are open and closed source operating systems as well as software and systems that play their own part in the technical world and give us a variety of technologies to use which really adds to the difficulty of pen pointing which is better and to add to that everyone has their own opinions but you really have to look at cost, ease of use, flexibility, maintenance, and accessibility. Closed source software is defined as software that contains a hidden source code or a non-visible source code and is designed and developed by either a private company or person and only the final executable product is released to its customers. So basically the source code is locked up tight and cannot be viewed, modified, or re-distributed by anyone that does not have ownership or licensing rights to the software unless it is hacked by a hacker which of course is illegal but does happen and some is sold and some source code is given to the public. The final non-hacked copy of the closed source software is then sold to the public. End users will buy the
