Explanation or representation of a phenomenon; model mapping it out o Set of constructs, definitions, propositions o Based on systematic observation o To represent, explain, predict a phenomenon Theory vs. Hypothesis Theory: broad, general explanation or representation of a phen. o Applies to a variety of situations Hypoth: guided by theory Tests specific variables in specific situation Two ways of construct theory A. Induction:  o 1. Make observations o 2. Generalize for observ’s o 3. Create theory B. Deduction: o 1. Examine the existing theory o 2. Derive testable hypotheses o 3. Make observations the Big Picture
