Lacey ThomasPMGT310 ClassWeek 2 – 2.1 Discussion Board Managing Communications in the ProjectTopic 3. On your project, team members don't seem to interact or communicate with eachother very well even though they are dependent upon each other to complete keydeliverables. In fact, because they don't update each other on their status or of anyimpending issues, two important deadlines have been missed by more than a week each. This has resulted in re-baselining of the schedule since you started with a very tight timeframe and with the two-week delays, you could not meet the target date. You areconvinced that by improving communication, you would resolve future communicationissues and may even be able to make up some (but not all time) lost earlier. What are some things you could do as the project manager to improve communicationand ensure you do not have additional delays because of ineffective communicationbetween team members?Topic 3 was chosen for my discussion due to this being a current issue on my overnight shift.Absolutely in improving communication future issues will be resolved and even time can bemade up that is spent on unnecessary tasks caused by the lack of discussions. “Researchconducted by the Project Management Institute (PMI) found that ineffective communication wasthe main contributor to project failure one-third of the time and had a negative impact on projectsuccess more than half the time.” (Windsor, 2021). This may include face to face, telephones, VOIP,videoconferencing, 2-way webinars, and press conferences. It’s also best when issues arise, orconflict management tools are needed. “Researchers found that face-to-face conversations andsocial interactions increased engagement, employee satisfaction, and productivity. Email andtexting were the least valuable forms of communication.” (Windsor, 2021). With that being saidwritten communication provides an easier outlet for breaking things down into bite-sized bits, theability to touch base often and deliver updates, showcase the vision through inspiration andmotivation, and through personable writing the capability to increase retention. Just be carefulnot to rely to heavily on written communication as its hard to convey what is really required andwas never intended for in depth conversations. Building on this to improve transmission of
