Lindsey Ouellette February 26, 2008 Optional Homework Assignment “What Would You Do?” Chapter 2 I am the manager of a three hundred-room hotel and face the problem of an overbooked facility. On Saturday the local University’s football team is hosting a game, which in the past has produced a no-show rate on reservations of eight, twelve, and nine percent, respectively. Although I currently have one hundred unreserved rooms I must decide how many rooms to book, taking into consideration the previous three no-show rates. Given the information above, I would be willing to accept reservations of no less than 327 rooms. In my Lodging Systems class we discussed the importance of risk taking in the hotel business. On a night that could potentially sell out every room in the hotel it would be detrimental to book only three hundred rooms, turning away even more, and have anywhere from 24 to 36 not show up. I arrived at the reservation number of 327 still being on the safe side and predicting a nine percent rate of no-shows. The spike
