Reflection for Unit 1 Date: February 22, 2007 Concept Discussed: Sociology of Sports Sociology of sport is described as a division of sociology that focuses on the relationship between sports and social relations. This concept is one that jumps out at me and is very familiar. Many of my relationships with others are formed in, based around, or supported solely by sports and the participation, viewing and discussion of them. Sociology is all about understanding human behaviors and social interactions, in this case pertaining to sports. I made many lasting friendships through participating in baseball and basketball when I was in grade school, and through soccer and tennis once I reached high school. I’ve also established friendships through talking about sports with others in classes in high school and college, and through attending sporting events at Maryland and at home. If not for sports many of these relationships would have either never started or would have by this time dissolved due to lack of a common interest that
