Reflection for Unit 3 Date: May 8, 2007 Concepts Discussed: Youth Sports Character Logic Among the topics discussed in our last unit, two stick out as things that have both positive and negative effects on children today. These two topics are youth sports and character logic. Youth sports refers to organized activities and games for children and teenagers to participate in, usually until they are old enough to compete at the high school level, and sometimes after. Character logic deals a lot with the behavior of athletes and the way they carry themselves and lead their lives. For many children, youth sports are an escape from whatever is going on in their lives; Whether it is poverty, abandonment or any kind of stress or struggle, sports provide a release for the child and also a constructive activity to keep the child occupied and out of trouble. But recent major trends in youth sports are hurting not only this idea, but often the children as well. One trend is the privatization of organized programs, meaning teams and leagues that used to be
