Justin Gardner Family Life Eng. 101 2/6/08 I chose to base my essay on Rick Santorum’s It Takes a Family: Conservation and the common good. I share a lot of the same views as Mr. Santorum in the fact that I feel growing up with two parents is best. I found this essay to be un-bias, factual, and interesting. I believe the points he makes are valid ones. To start Mr. Santorum says “The best place to grow up is in a happy home with a happily married Mom and Dad”. I believe that this is the best environment in which to grow up. I, growing up in this type of environment feel that it is an equal balance of give and take. There were always privileges and rights, but I knew what not to do. I believe this also as Santorum points out helps in reducing the crime rate. According to studies, Santorum points out those broken homes can increase the rate of delinquency in a community by 15%! I believe that’s where the role of a father comes into play. My Dad was strict and I knew what I could get away with and what I could not, but it helped me
