Terra Russell Cognitive Psych Article Memories go bye-bye This article discusses the thing most people fear about getting older, loosing their memories. Now, there's good news for elderly folk in good health they are more likely to keep all of their memories intact. However, there has been some link to people losing their memories when they have certain illnesses or diseases. These are diabetes, cardiovascular disease or a gene called apolipoprotein E e4 (APOE e4), which recent studies have linked to Alzheimer's disease. Elderly people with these diseases can lose their short-term memory up to eight times as fast as their healthier people that are of that age. Mary Haan, M.P.H believes that they can fend off age-related memory loss by exercising regularly and eating a healthful diet. This article interests more on a personal level then anything. My mom is a diabetic so I found it interesting that this could be a path she has to go down in her life.

Even with those items people will still have affect of a disease or if it is in their genetics it can still harm you. I feel that she wants to believe that is a possibility and it is always nice to hear that you can do something about your misfortune instead of sitting back and letting it take over you. I feel maybe with a certain type of diabetes exercise can help because with a certain lifestyle you can beat either type 1 or type 2 diabetes. However, that type is caused by people’s lifestyle choices so I don’t know if losing their memories faster will be enough motivation anyways for those individuals.
