Jordan Lofgren ENGW 1101 Intro to Creative Writing TA: Patrick Hueller Suzan-Lori Parks Response Suzan-Lori Parks was a great writer to go and experience a lecture from. She was able to read a few passages from a couple of her novels while also giving us as the audience “one million” suggestions to be an overall better writer. The main suggestion that she passed on to us was that as a writer, you need to listen to yourself and everything that is taking place around you. Your inner voice is a great way to be able to find ideas and concepts for writing stories. The example she used was when she was writing her screenplay about Ray Charles. She was stuck and didn’t know where to turn next. Her inner voice told her to write about how Ray Charles wanted to come back to life and give one last performance for his friends and family. “Your inner voice as a writer is able to take you places that you never thought were possible” was what Parks said while presenting the importance of inner voice on us. Another interesting point that Parks shared with us was her concept about how
