Allan Pinkerton Biography Allan Pinkerton CJS/250Corin McDonaldMay 1, 2016 Mark RosenfieldAllan Pinkerton was born in Glasgow, Scotland in August of1819. His father was a police sergeant, but was injured on-the-job and died as a result of his injuries in 1828. Since the pasting of his father this caused the family to live in poverty. So he worked as a barrel maker to support his family. In 1842, Allan Pinkerton decided to migrate to the United States, he was 23yers old at the time. He lived in Kane County, Illinois, where he opened a shop called,”Coopers Shop.” The shop eventually became a station on the Underground Railroad (Allan Pinkerton, 2010). Allan Pinkerton became interested in detective work, when he accidently uncovered a group of counterfeiters that led to his interest in detective work and an appointment to Kane County Sheriff in 1846. Due to his achievements, he was made the deputy sheriff of Cook County which was nearby. In 1850 Allan Pinkerton left his position as a deputy sheriff on the Chicago police force to open his own
