Asia/MLL 078 Spring 2008 Syllabus Asian American Studies (Asian/MLL078) Class time/place: WF 1:10-2:25 at MG270 Instructor: Prof. Kiri Lee ( [email protected] ) Office: MG 513; 758-4490 Office hours: MW 2:30-3:30 and/or by appointment Course description: In this course, we will study Asian-American experiences from historical, sociological, anthropological and literally perspectives. The textbooks used are: “A Framework for Immigration: Asians in the United States” by Uma A. Segal (Columbia 2002); and “Asian American Dreams: The emergence of an American People” by Helen Zia (FSG 2000). Some of the issues dealt with in these books will be supplemented by other materials, i.e., videos, films, novels, essays, guest speakers, etc. A good portion of class time will be spent in discussion; therefore, preparing for each class by doing assigned reading is essential. I will try to keep reading reasonable. Course requirements:
