1) “The electric field at the surface of each conductor is the same” is false because, for example, we don’t know anything about the area surrounding the conductors. If both conductors were both identical flat plates, but one conductor was surrounded with a dielectric with dielectric constant 1 and the other conductor with a dielectric with dielectric constant 2 , then the E fields at the surfaces would be different. “No free charge can be present on either conductor” is false because once we connect the two conductors with a wire, all we have is another conductor with a different physical shape. If there were charge present on either conductor prior to hooking up both with a wire, then the charge will rearrange itself, but it will still be present somewhere on the composite conductor. “Each carries the same free charge” is false because what if the two conductors are of different physical shape? If one conductor is a plate of area 1 m 2 and the other is a plate of area 100 m
