Atria contract, forcing blood into the ventricles 2. Ventricles contract forcing blood throughout artery. 3. The cycles ends as the heart relaxes. Heart Valves • Maintain the direction of blood flow • One-way flaps made of connective tissue • Two types of heart valves 1. Atrioventricular valves -Between each atrium & ventricle -Prevent blood from flowing from ventricle into atrium 2. Semilunar valves -Between ventricles & exit arteries (aorta & pulmonary artery) -Prevent blood from returning when ventricles relax Maintaining the Cardiac Cyce
