Statistical Reasoning Mode -the most frequently occurring score in a distribution Mean -the arithmetic average of a distribution; obtained by adding the scores and then dividing by the number of scores Median -the middle score in a distribution; half the scores are above it and half are below it 1-0, 2-1, 3-0, 4-1, 5-2, 6-10, 7-2, 8-9, 9-0, 10-11 36 scores total Mean-7.5 Median-8 Mode-10 Correlation coefficient-->r= +.37; + or -Indicates direction of relationship (positive or negative) and .37 indicates strength of relationship ( 0.00 to 1.00) Why do Psychologists Study Human Biology? -everything psychological is simultaneously biological -branch of psychology concerned with the links between biology and behavior What is a neuron? -a nerve cell (body) and branching fibers; two types of fibers: dendrites and axons -the basic building block of the nervous system What makes up a neuron? Dendrite (short) - the bishy, branching, extensions of a neuron that receive messages and conduct impulses toward the cell body
