DeRosa 1 Lindsey DeRosa Dr. Fernando Arenas English 1102 18 February 2008 Two Hours In Paris Cleo From 5 to 7 is a whirlwind movie by Belgian director, Agnes Varda. The film follows French singer, Cleo through her day while she waits impatiently for the results of a cancer test. Cleo is very superstitious, most likely on account of her maid making superstitious observations every minute or so. Every bad thing that happens, she sees as an omen to her death. Throughout the movie, she has convinced herself that she is dying of stomach cancer, and it seems like she is trying to enjoy her last moments on earth. She rebels against her normal activities, and acts like she has nothing to lose. The first scene opens as a close up on a woman’s hands shuffling cards. The hands belong to the fortune teller Cleo went to see. The cards and hands are in color but as soon as the camera shifts to the women’s faces, the picture becomes black and white. The fortuneteller reads Cleo’s tarot cards and sees death, but does not tell Cleo this. She tells her to detach herself from
