UNIV 1001 UNIT 4Job postings often state that the successful applicant must have superior critical thinking andproblem-solving skills. Yet employers tell college administrators that graduates, both fromundergraduate and graduate programs, often lack these skills.Having read this week's assigned materials, how would you define critical thinking? Why are employers making these comments? Are they justified?Critical thinking is the ability to think and evaluate a situation and all its implications. It is thetool which helps us answer what we are facing, how it works, why is it there, when it ishappening and where. As I mentioned before, critical thinking can be conscious. For example, we are in a farmingindustry and we only harvest 50% of the assumed yield. Critical thinking will define what theproblem is (the lower yield), how it happened (it could be that the plant size was smaller thannormal), why it happened (may be lack of fertilizers, lack of water, the weather was not infavor, etc), when it happened (it could be in the first stages of the crop or in harvest) and whereit happened (is it a problem only in my field or is it in my town or region?).
