Barron 1 Meaghan Barron English 103 Dr. Adams February 3, 2008 Old, Wealthy, Retired? You Will Want This! Each magazine has a specific target audience. Sometimes the target audience is very easy to pin point just by looking at the cover, but other this times requires analyzing the magazine. The audience for the Smithsonian is older, retired, wealthy, well-educated readers, who want to be informed about many subjects such as art, history, and travel in order to become well-rounded and learn for leisure and entertainment. The Smithsonian’s articles and advertisements appeal to older, retired, wealthy, and well-educated readers. The intended audience is evident in an advertisement for a travel company in the January 2008 issue. The travel company, Go to Puerto Rico, sells their cruise to Puerto Rico by emphasizing fine food, architecture, and serene photographs travelers would find there. The ad states, “its towering 16 th -centry wells, vibrant art and bombastic music, offer a new delight around every corner.” The wording of this sentence describes Puerto Rico as an exciting and interesting destination for people who don’t have much excitement in their lives. By showing fine food and tranquil settings, this ad clearly shows the audience of this magazine must be well informed,
