BIOLOGY 309D: THE HUMAN BODY 50290, 50295, 50300, 50305 MWF 1:00 – 2:00 BUR 116 Spring 2008 Instructor : Dr. Jessica Wandelt Office : PAI 3.10D Office Hours : TTH 9:30-10:30 and F 10:00-11:00 in PAT 207 or by appointment Email : [email protected] Teaching Assistant : Jessica Zidik Office : SW7 201 Office Hours : MW 11:30 – 12:30 and F 2:30 – 3:15 Email : [email protected]  Required Supplies Textbook : Biology of Humans: Concepts, Applications, and Issues, 2 nd edition by Goodenough, McGuire and Wallace, 2007 Clicker: i>clicker (available at Co-op)  Course Description Designed for nonscience majors. This course offers an introduction to the systems of the body, their functions and interrelationships. Bio 309D is an excellent opportunity to learn how the body works and better understand current health topics. Three lecture hours and one discussion hour a week. May not be counted toward a degree in biology.  Lectures You are strongly encouraged to attend all lectures. The material presented during lecture will be the basis of the exams. In addition, a part of your grade will be determined by your participation during lecture (see below for more information). Outlines of lecture presentations with figures will be available on Blackboard ( prior to class. It is suggested that you bring these to class as a guide for note taking. Just looking at these outlines is not an adequate substitute for attending class. Discussion Sections Each student is enrolled in a one hour per week discussion section (see below) that will begin meeting the week of January 28 . These discussions, which are led by your TA, are run for your benefit. The purpose of these sessions is to review and reinforce the material covered in lecture, as well as to provide you the opportunity to discuss topics in smaller groups. It is highly recommended that you attend all discussion sessions. In addition, participation during these meetings will be factored into your overall course grade (see below for more details). Please attend the discussion section to which you are assigned.
