Janet Dahlquist Professor Mitchell Anthropology 105C 25 November 2013 Understanding 9/11 Summary Understanding 9/11, an article by Lionel Tiger, suggests that instead of being crazed loners, the young men who follow Bin Laden suffer from pathological diseases caused by their backgrounds. The tone of this article is set in a dark, ominous manner that convinces the reader that the author truly believes the followers of Bin Laden to be in the wrong. The author points to underlying causes in the cultural background of many of these young men. For example, one of the reasons many young men live a monk-like life devoted to religion is that they are not able to marry. The government under which they live requires men to pay families $40,000 per wife and thus not many men can marry. Another way the author brings this out is by pointing to the fact that women and men do not interact very much with each other.
