Dr. Mikulay Psychology 215 Homework#1 1. The phenomenon of “beer goggles” is defined as the effect of alcohol impacting a person’s perception of the attractiveness another person, so that they find someone attractive whom they would not find attractive were it not for the changes in perception made by alcohol. In order to test the hypothesis that men find women more attractive when they have been drinking this study would contain two groups of college students. A random sampling of male college seniors would be chosen from Illinois State University. In the second group a random sampling of male college seniors from Wheaton College where students make a commitment not to drink. It is assumed that ever person in the sample is of legal age to drink. The students would be given a confidential survey and asked questions about selection of dating partners in reference to consumption of alcohol. Have you asked someone on a date after consuming more than three alcoholic beverages in a three- hour window? Have you dated someone who you found to be less attractive than you believed them to be when you first met them? Have you asked someone out on a date after you had consumed more than three alcoholic beverages in a three hour window of time whom you considered to be very attractive and later found they were not as attractive as you thought on your first meeting? Have you asked someone out on a date late in the evening and found later in the light of day your perception of that person was not as attractive as you thought? Have you asked someone out late in the evening, at the end of a long week, and later found they were not as attractive as you found them to be on your first meeting?
