Parker Ferguson G. Yngve English 2010 February 7, 2016 Essay #2 – “No blood!” shouted Jadine Russell, at least 10 times to emergency workers and doctors (Lesser Conviction for Driver in D.U.I. Case). The previous sentence describes one of the most significant moments involved in a court case that decides how the defendant, Keith Cook, will be prosecuted. In Pomona, California, on December 4 th , Keith Cook drove his car into a woman named Jadine Russell while under the influence. The crash resulted in the critical condition of Jadine Russell, who refused any sort of blood transfusion due to her religious beliefs as a Jehovah’s witness (Rainey). In the court case People vs. Cook, Keith Cook should be charged for vehicular manslaughter and two DUI charges, but not for second-degree murder because of Mrs. Russell’s decision to not violate her religious beliefs. First off, Keith Cook is not guilty of murder. He may be guilty of other charges, such as drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter, but as the defense attorney Charles Unger put it, “people are free to have their religious choice and freedom, but
