The further into the technological future our world progresses, the more and more medical technologies we develop. As we develop these advancements in medicine, our doctors and hospitals can easily save more patients lives as well as increasing lifespan and quality of life. However, for as many positives that we can find to come out of these developments, there are costs involved, just as there are great benefits to all costs endured in utilizing the technology. No one can dispute all of the positive things medical advancements have done for us. For instance, consider physically disabled people who are in need of what are called assistive technology. These devices such as types of wheelchairs, walkers, prosthetic limbs, or anything along these lines allow the physically disabled people to live much fuller lives than they may had ever thought possible for themselves. No longer will as many disabled people have to rely on others to help them or do things for them. With the help of the assistive technologies, patrons can enjoy better living, working, and recreational environments, me more involved with community, enjoy choices in life that were previously unavailable to them due to their disabilities, and most importantly harness a better control over every facet of their everyday life (Assistive Technology). Not only do we have technologies to help those with physical disabilities, but consider that Emergency Room patient who would not have survived without the help of a last minute open heart surgery or removal of a harmful tumor. Or consider how helpful it has been to the people who have had corrective surgeries such as laser eye surgery or perhaps a procedure done to a dysfunctional muscle or bone. Although it is difficult to argue against the helpfulness and success of such procedures, these are the areas where controversy may come into play and questions can be raised as to where the benefits of
