History 151 Test 3 Ch. 17 Seven Years War (1756-1763) -the British empire vs. the French empire -the British defeated the French -“The Raj”- the beginning of the British of the Indian continent -French and Indian war- one theater of larger war -birth of the Cajun culture- Acadia -the British gain the Mississippi valley -outcome of the seven years war is a series of Indian attacks -Parliaments job to take care of British citizens -Parliament want to tax American colonist so they can pay a portion -no taxation without representation American War of Independence The French want revanche (revenge) -French are on our side -the French wanted America to win -Battle of Saratoga- France bankrolled American Revolution -this war is to see if the enlightenment is real -is an experience of enlightenment Marquis de Lafayette (France) -wants to bring life into the enlightenment ideas -will become General Washington’s great detaft -will become a general Bacon Von Steuben -spoke 3 languages -was profane in all 3 languages -he is a military man -he will reinvent the American military system Thaddesz Rosauszko (Poland) -a professional engineer -he will establish the defenses at the Battle of Saratoga -will help the enlightenment succeed -The Americans will win

The American War of Independent demonstrates that the enlightenment is real -proves for six years late when the constitution is made -3 branches of government -speech, rights, assembly, petition, press = enlightenment The United States was not the only nation born out of the revolution -Canada is born out of it -Australia is born out of it -1788 is the first fleet of convicts to Australia -In order to finance the American Revolution the French take their big hit to their economy Louis the fourteenth -issues Edith of fountainebleu -will revoke the religious rights of Huegnots (French colonists) -French business went to America 1789 French Revolution -the American Revolution caused it 1. causes of French Revolution 2. national assembly 3. reign of terror 4. Napoleon Causes of French Revolution -because of national debt -France cannot pay off debt because of economy Louis XVI (the sixteenth) -gets money by taxing the people -Catholic Church owns 10% of the land -collects tenet fees from the land and collects money from the economic activities -the Catholic Church is tax exempt -the Catholic Church owns all the land -Nobles made laws in the middle ages- they didn’t tax themselves -the peasants are paying the taxes -taxation is on the common folks of France
