Thomas Markou 9879-1134 While Craigslist has been very successful domestically, many issues will arise with a global expansion. Marketing, workforce expansion, and cultural differences will present logistical problems for the online classified behemoth. One reason Craigslist has become very popular in the United States without a formal advertising campaign is the word-of-mouth buzz from happy site visitors. Expansion into a new territory would have trouble catching on because no previous users exist in that country. To raise awareness, the company would have to undertake a large marketing campaign both online on sites such as Google and through traditional media such as print and television. Once a following develops and the business model plays out like it has in the U.S., Craigslist could reduce the advertising and allow for viral marketing. Craigslist should also look into making the website more visually pleasing, as many customers in other countries may become suspicious of such a bare-bones website
