Dustin Haag Eng 1010-32 Posing a ? Title IX In the mid 1990’s the University of Wyoming cut the men’s varsity baseball program due to the Title IX law, the federal law that prohibits discrimination based on gender in any educational program that receives federal assistance, including athletic programs. The University’s baseball program dated back nearly one-hundred years, and was the only collegiate baseball team, Division 1 or otherwise, in the State. Cutting this program made Wyoming the only State without a varsity collegiate baseball team. This poses a problem, and thus a question needs to be asked. How should Title IX be enforced in cases such as the cutting baseball at the University of Wyoming? Many would argue that Title IX was meant to give equality to both sexes, not to give more advantages and opportunities to females. This means giving women more opportunities so that the gap between men’s and women’s chances is roughly equal. This does not mean taking away opportunities from male athletes until the gap diminishes. They would point out that
