MOUSETRAP RACERSTUDENT’S NAMEDATE OF SUBMISSION
ABSTRACTThe mousetrap vehicle design is a rectangular , four wheeled, wooden vehicle.It will use the potential energy stored in the mousetrap spring car to move. A string will be attached to the rear axle of the vehicle.The rear axle also connected to the end of the straightened arm of the mousetrap. When you pull the arm back and wind the string around the axle it creates tension and potential energy.When the arm is released this energy is transformed into kinetic energy and thus the vehicle moves. This report is about how we accomplished this feat.
INTRODUCTIONThe mousetrap Racer is a vehicle that runs on four wheels across the ground. Its powered by the mousetrap at its center. The arm is tightened back and the tension in the spring is used to propel the vehicle forward. A string is tied to the arm (or an extended lever arm) on the mousetrap and the other end to the axle.Through winding of the string around the axle, the mousetrap's spring pulls on the string , when released, causing the wheels to turn and thus making the car move
MATERIALS1.Four wooden wheels2.6 paper clips3.Corrugated cardboard4.One wooden dowel5.12” length of 3/16” steel rod6.8 ½” times 11” piece of corrugated cardboard7.2’ piece of fishing line8.4 eye hooks9.Masking or duct tape 2 6” pieces
PROCEDURECut a piece of cardboard so that it is slightly bigger than mousetrap by about ½” on every side.Use duct tape to attach mousetrap to the base, care not to cover up spring in the middle of the trap Screw the four eye hooks onto the bottom of the cardboard chassis, one in each corner. Ensure they are aligned with each otherInsert one wooden dowel into the front eye hooks to act as the front axle. This is the set of eye hooks directly under the mousetrap.
