Alexandra Hacherl Comm 200 Extra Credit – ISA: Uniting the World I found the ISA presentations to be very interesting, engaging, and I definitely learned a lot about the difference in cultures and traditions. First I attended the “Mexico: A Review of its Politics and NAFTA” presentation by Carlos Torres. His lecture material consisted of Mexico’s main problems, NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) info, and that their president hasn’t done a whole lot of good for his country. A huge difference between the Mexican and American culture that Torres was sure to point out was our enforcement of security. For example if someone is caught with less than an once of Marijuana here you go to get a ticket, go to court, and pay it off; where as in Mexico if one is caught under the same circumstances its an immediate five years in jail. Interesting. I also learned that NAFTA was meant to be a way for Canada, US, and Mexico to establish a better relationship with each other through active trade; alas this mission didn’t quite succeed.
