Michele MoritzInitial Post Week 10Urinary Tract InfectionAccording to Huether and McCance (2012), urinary tract infections (UTI) can happen in the urethra, prostate, bladder, ureter, or kidney anywhere along the urinary tract. Many disorderscan affect the renal and urinary function; the most common type of urinary dysfunction is infection of the bladder (cystitis) (Huether & McCance, 2012). UTI’s can be considered upper orlower. An upper UTI’s are pyelonephritis, intra-renal abscess, perinephric abscess, and lower UTI’s are cystitis, urethritis, and prostatitis (Sobieszczyk, n.d.). Bacteria present in the gut flora cause the urinary epithelium to become inflamed which results in a UTI (Huether & McCance, 2012).
