Art and Technology Daniel Zauderer Protocol #4 In the essay I recently handed in one of my main objects of concentration was the rupture of subject and object that both Theodor Adorno and Walter Benjamin criticize. As I have now learned, Heidegger, too, criticizes objectification, albeit for altogether different reasons. In the remainder of our readings on Heidegger I’d like to discover how the Heideggarian notion of “objectification” differs from that of Adorno and Benjamin. Certainly, Heidegger’s vocabulary is, to a huge extent, different from Benjamin’s and Adorno’s. While Benjamin and Adorno, for the most part, seem to derive their critiques from concepts we are already familiar with, Heidegger creates his own language, one with which we must become accustomed to if we are to understand his philosophical musings. In one respect, though, Adorno seems more in line with Heidegger than Benjamin: both he and Heidegger locate the saving power of the modern era in art.
