Clarence Bailey SrLee OttScience in Science Fiction SCI-215SCApril 20, 2015The City of TomorrowFar far away in a distant time, the city of tomorrow has been built. It is the year 2150, and I am Clarence Bailey the 23rd. I currently live in the city of new Tampa. It was rebuilt after Hurricane Mary in 2130 after a category five hurricane destroyed the city and many inhabitants within a 300-mile radius of the city. Because of Tampa Bay’s unique locations to the wormhole that was discovered in 2140, the city has become a major hub for people all over the world. The discovery of the worm whole has allowedus to travel to distant planets within the galaxy. It has also allowed us to inhabit several planets and colonies other. We are currently mining several planets for resources; however, what we are looking for is a world with a large supply of fresh water. After the population boom of the 21st century and the dwelling resources on the planet, people begin to move back to the city in order share resources. The United Nations has predicted by the year 2050 60% of the world’s population would be living in cities and by 2100 that number would push well over 80%. In the year 2150, 95% of the people on the planet live in major cities around the world. Because of this growing population shift, cities have had to change to the dwelling place for all rich and poor alike. Because of those changes, there were fights between the corporate consortiums and the green utopias. These two groups fought vigorously on how the city should be formed and set up however in the end technology won out. My family and I have live in Tampa now for well over 200 years. My great great grandfather began keeping a journal of the development of city when he became city planner in 2020. His vision was to provide those who live in the city the opportunities that technology could provide only to those who
2dwell within the city’s borders. With the emergence of technology and the many innovations, it became apparent that the cities could provide something that you cannot get anywhere else. The improvement of fiber optics and the increased connectivity via the internet, the city made some tremendous movement in order to attract people. The entire city was wired for fiber optics, and the residents were given free accessto Internet. The city built the first bullet train on the East Coast. 50 years later Eli Must invented sky portal a new technology that could get you from Key West to Tampa in less than 1hour. Therefore, throughout the next hundred years Tampa was a leading example of how a city could thrive and survive. The cities of the future are now building in the skies, and they were created with multiple zones mega towers. Mega sky lifters cover the cities, and personal vehicle for transportation are outdated, as the resources were needed in order to power the cities. Other new technologies was the invention of servicedrones are now a part of our everyday lives. Cities have become less dependent on fossil fuels and more dependent on alternative fuel.
