Spencer Syfrig Professor Smith April 2006 GIS 101 Not So Funny Cartoons On September 30, 2005 the Danish newspaper  Jyllands-Posten  ran a series  of artistic interpretations of what the prophet Muhammad might look like. Forty  cartoonists were invited to draw an image and only twelve submitted works in  fear of retaliation from conservative Muslims ("Jyllands-Posten Muhammad  cartoons controversy.”). As the images spread worldwide many Muslims became  infuriated with the depictions; which are forbidden by Islamic code. Riots broke- out worldwide in response and many people were injured and killed ("20,000  Rally Against Cartoons”). Many Muslim organizations have tried to sue the  Jyllands-Posten  for the cartoons, although none have succeeded under Danish law  ("Danish Muslims File Suit Over Muhammad Cartoons”). I do not agree with the extent of the riots that took place in response to the
