Syfrig 2 Statement of the Issue The issue of labor is a prominent for many low-income countries. Wealthier and further developed countries feel that there should be labor standards placed upon lesser developed and wealthy countries. If the labor standards are put into effect it would cause a loss of jobs. Lower income counties have an advantage over the higher income countries because they can pay lesser wages and provide cheaper wages. The comparatively low wages are a better alternative to the sustenance farming and agriculture that a majority of the populations are employed in. The working conditions may seem below standards in the eyes of high income countries, they are far better than those of the citizens working in agriculture. Many of the high income countries would also like to see restrictions put on the age of workers. Children under the age of eighteen provide a part of the family’s income. Without the extra money many families would not be able to support themselves at the already low levels that they are at. We would like to see the following Code of Conduct placed into effect. Resolution to be Considered Child labor use at the discretion of the individual producers. “Labeling” (“Rugmark”) at the discretion of the individual firms; revenue from “labeling to be used for child education programs No minimum wage standard No limits on hours of work per week; no mandatory paid vacations
