Sleeping & Rest Requirements Policy
The centre will ensure that all children have appropriate opportunities to sleep, rest and relax in
accordance with their individual needs. The services will provide beds and cots that comply with the
National Quality Standards and Education and Care Services National Regulations. The risk of Sudden
Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) will be minimised by following the practices and guidelines set out by the
health authorities.
Approved providers, nominated supervisors and educators have a duty of care to ensure children is
provided with a high level of safety when sleeping and resting every reasonable precaution is taken to
protect the children from harm and hazard. Approved providers are responsible for ensuring sleep and
rest policies and procedure are in place. Nominated supervisors and educators should receive
information and training to fulfil their roles effectively, including being made aware of the sleep and rest
policies, their responsibilities in implementing these, and any changes that are made over time.
