MATH 111 Test 1 REVIEW Chapter 1 Section 1, 2, 3, 5 1. Know how to solve a linear equation involving a single variable and how to solve a linear equation having two variables for one of the variables. 2. Know how to solve a pair of linear equations in two variables using either substitution or elimination by addition ( chapter 7, section 1 ). 3. Know how solve a linear inequality. Be able to express the solution as an inequality, using interval notation, or as a graph on the number line. 4. Know how to solve a quadratic equation by factoring, using the square root property, completing the square, or by using the quadratic formula.
