COMM 280: Theorizing Communication Prof. Haliliuc, Spring 16 Theories Applied: Final Paper Due : Wednesday, May 4 th in hard copy and over email : [email protected] Length : 7 – 10 double-spaced pages typed, excluding references Format : MLA style, Times New Roman font, 1 inch margins Total points : 25 % of final grade Goals: Master a theory and related concepts Apply conceptual frameworks to the study of a “text” Become prepared to structure an academic paper in the field of Communication Discern how theory illuminates a “text” and a “text” illuminates theory Description and Instructions : In this final project you will bring theories and concepts studied in this class to illuminate newer and deeper understandings of an object of study, also referred to as a “text. ” Your work so far has provided you with a sustained effort of discerning the nuances of many theoretical perspectives and with the opportunity to notice in what questions and issues you are most interested for the future. The Unit 4 weeks introduce you to the work of professors in this department and give you the opportunity to notice what motivates their research choices, how they approach scholarship, and how they work with theory. The final project is an opportunity to bring your own curiosity to the field of communication.
