Essay #3 Jordan Stanton M/W/F 2:00-2:50 9/24/07 Nutshell The purpose of this essay is to inform a general audience about the quote made by Republican presidential nominee Barry Goldwater. The essay will come from a standpoint of someone who is for the aspects of extremism and moderation. Throughout the essay I want my thesis to reinforce this concept; extreme precautions such as wiretapping, surveillance and personal data mining are necessary to keep America safe from harm. I also want to include specific examples of what can happen if precautionary methods are not taken.

Outline Thesis- extreme precautions such as wiretapping, surveillance and personal data mining are necessary to keep America safe from harm. Intro Paragraph- Barry Goldwater’s 1964 Republican Nomination Acceptance speech stirred up a lot of controversy in the United States. The dilemma revolved around two significant topics, the first centering around the concept of doing extreme things to protect the country and the other concerning swift justice measures. Extreme precautions such as wiretapping, surveillance and personal data mining are necessary to keep America safe from harm. I. Preventing future mishaps A. 9/11 B. Wire Tapping and Data Mining a.
