Today’s Middle Class
In 2008, I view myself as a middle class, blue-collar citizen.
I go to college full
time and work part time.
I live at home with my parents and younger brother.
I earn
money to pay for things I want and need from working at Graeters.
I also am a volunteer
football and lacrosse coach at my former high school; where I earn pay for working odd
jobs for the school.
Living at home with two working parents helping me manage things
is why I feel leaves me firmly in the middle class.
I pay for my own classes and my car
on my own with money I earn from working; however my necessities are taken care of by
my parents.
I am able to have more spending money this way than if I was trying to live
away from home.
I feel I fall under the blue-collar label with my job scooping ice cream at Graeters.
I work around 20 to 25 hours a week to get through college.
My job is blue collar
because I am dealing with everyday people and earning just over seven dollars an hour.
