Who Killed Reconstruction EssayBy Noah EarleImagine being a Republican voter during Reconstruction, always fearing the arrival of KKK members that might hurt or even kill you for your beliefs. This is what many Republicans feared at that time, where it was a very real possibility especially in the South. Reconstruction was the period following the Civil War where the Union set up the conditions in which the southern states were let back into the Union. However it also dealt with African American civil rights. In this essay we’ll look at both the North and the South to determine which side is the most responsible for killing Reconstruction. The South during Reconstruction was plagued with racism and KKK members. They hated Reconstruction and rights for African Americans, both of which were occurring at the time. This is one reason the South could be to blame for the death of Reconstruction.
